scc(4) — RISC
Name
scc − serial keyboard/mouse/communications interface
Syntax
controller scc0 at tc0 slot 3 vector sccintr
Description
Two base board scc dual UARTS provide the DECstation 5000/100 and DECstation 5000/300 workstations with keyboard, mouse, and serial communications interfaces. The serial communications interfaces include full modem control and can operate at baud rates from B50 to B38400.
The data signal connections for the 2 scc chips is as follows:
SCC/PortUsage
0/AMouse
0/BCommunications port 1
1/AKeyboard
1/BCommunications port 2
In server configurations, serial port 2 is /dev/console and becomes the system console. In graphics terminal configurations, serial port 2 is /dev/tty01 and is available for RS-232 connections. The serial system console port always operates at 9600 BPS, 8-bits, no parity and no modem control is supported.
Restrictions
Data communications equipment attached to the console serial port in server configurations must be set to 9600 BPS, 8-bits, no parity. The scc driver enforces this restriction.
