sizer(8)
Name
sizer − a program that sizes system hardware
Syntax
/etc/sizer [ options ]
Description
The sizer program reports information about a kernel file and the running system. It is also used by the doconfig program to create a system configuration file.
Options
-bCreate a boot command file for the current system disk. The sizer program creates the appropriate defboo and askboo command files in /usr/sys/*.cons. These files can then be used to update the system’s console media. This option applies only to the VAX 8600, VAX 780, VAX 6200, and VAX 3400 CPUs and to the VAX 750 and VAX 8200 CPUs whose system disks are connected to a Hierarchical Storage Controller (HSC).
-cReturn the CPU type of the running CPU.
-t timezone
Specify a time zone string as defined in the Guide to Configuration File Maintenance for the timezone global definition. For example,
-t"5 dst 1"
represents the timezone five hours west of Greenwich Mean Time adjusted for daylight savings time. This is United States Eastern daylight savings time.
-gt(RISC only) Return an ASCII string that describes the graphics controller board.
-wt(VAX only; obsolete on RISC) Return the workstation display type.
-wu(VAX only; obsolete on RISC) Return the workstation display units.
-k image
Use the indicated kernel file instead of /vmunix. This is useful when the running system is not /vmunix or you want information about a system that is not running.
-n filename
Create a configuration file. To do this, the system must be running the /vmunix kernel unless the −k option is used. The −n option creates a configuration file in /tmp/filename and also a file required for MAKEDEV called /tmp/filename.devs.
NOTE: The user should run doconfig to build a new kernel.
-rReturn only the name of the root device and partition.
-s(VAX only) Return the value for the CPU subtype of the running CPU:
ValueCPU
11VAX8800
10VAX8700
9VAX8550
8VAX8500
6VAX8300
5VAX8200
4VAXstation/MVAX 2000/3100
3VAX60
1MVAXII, VAX3x00, VAX62xx
The value 0 is returned for all other CPU types.
