ypsetup(8yp)
NAME
ypsetup - set up the Yellow Pages (YP) environment
SYNTAX
/etc/ypsetup
DESCRIPTION
The ypsetup command is an interactive facility that allows you to set up the Yellow Pages (YP) service on your system. It sets up your default YP domain name and the nature of your YP environment (master server, slave server, or client), and places several administrative files under YP control.
The ypsetup command checks to see if the file /etc/svcorder exists. If it does not, then ypsetup creates it with an entry for the YP service, and another entry for the local service. If the svcorder file already exists but does not contain an entry for YP, ypsetup gives you this reminder:
Be sure to update the svcorder file to reflect the proper
order in which to access the Yellow Pages service for host
name/address resolution.
If you are running more than one service, you should consider the order in which the services are to be queried. You can edit the /etc/svcorder file to reflect this order after ypsetup completes.
A local area network must be set up on your system before you can set up YP. You must know your system’s default YP domain name and whether your system will be a master server, slave server, or client. If your system is to be the master server for your YP domain, be sure no other master has been established. If your system is not to be the master server, be sure a master already exists for your YP domain. Once you know this information, run ypsetup with the system in multiuser mode and answer its questions.
If your system is a diskless client, and your diskless server is running YP, the dms utility will have already set up a default YP environment for your system.
