NAME
help − ULTRIX-11 Help Facility
SYNTAX
help [ menu... ] [ cmd... ] [ term... ] [ file... ] [ number... ]
DESCRIPTION
The help command provides on-line summaries of all ULTRIX-11 commands, terms, system administrative files, annd kernel error messages. If no arguments are given, help displays a Welcome Screen that introduces you to the Help Facility and directs you to the General Menu. From this menu, you can proceed to more specific menus for the task and then to the appropriate command. If an argument is specified, however, help directly displays the appropriate summary, saving an experienced user from having to go through menus to obtain the information.
In addition, the Help Facility provides a section on commonly used ULTRIX-11 terms. Intended to serve as part of an on-line glossary, the summary for each term provides a brief definition and, where appropriate, references to related terms.
Whenever possible, help summaries have been kept to one screen or less. When more than one screen is required, however, help automatically displays the summary using more(1). The more command lets you page through this information. When additional information is available, more pauses and displays --More-- at the bottom of the screen. You can press the space bar to view the next screen, press the RETURN key to view the next line, or use <CTRL/C> to exit. The more command provides a full range of commands. For further information, see more(1).
