NAME
ISO8859-15, iso8859-15 − A character encoding system (codeset) for Albanian, Basque, Breton, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Faroese, Finnish, French, Frisian, Galician, German, Greenlandic, Icelandic, Irish Gaelic, Italian, Latin, Luxemburgish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Rhaeto-Romanic, Scottish Gaelic, and Swedish
DESCRIPTION
ISO 8859−15 (Latin-9) is very similar to ISO 8859−1 (Latin−1) except for the inclusion of the euro currency sign (C=) and several other characters. Latin-9 is supported mainly as a means to supply fonts for Latin-1 languages that need to display and print the euro character. Font support for the euro character is enabled through the fonts supplied for ISO 8859−15 and a set of codeset converters that convert data to ISO8859-15 from other encoding formats (such as UTF-8 and some PC code pages) that also support the euro. Keyboard entry of the euro character is supported by keymaps in XKB format when used with the Latin-9 (.ISO8859-15) or Unicode (.UTF-8) locales.

Note
The euro currency sign was not defined in Unicode codesets before Version 2.1 of the Unicode standard, so implementations of Unicode encoding formats based on prior versions of the standard do not include the character.

Font Support for ISO 8859-15
The operating system includes only bitmap fonts for the ISO8859-15 codeset. Although no PostScript fonts are included for this codeset, you can set up a generic print filter to substitute in a print job the appropriate PostScript font glyphs available in fonts provided for other codesets. Refer to i18n_printing(5) and wwpsof(8) for more information.
