NAME
format − stand alone format program for HDC and HSA disks
SYNOPSIS
/stand/format
DESCRIPTION
format is a stand alone program which is used to format, verify, or define partition sizes for disk drives on an HDC or HSA controller. There is also an online CX/UX version of format. The stand alone version of the format program is the same as the online CX/UX version except that:
1) No options are available - the program must be run interactively.
2) Only a single copy of the program may be run at a time.
3) The disk unit cannot be specified on the command invocation line. When the stand alone format program starts, it requests the name of the disk device. The standard stand alone device names are used - e.g. dsk(13,0,0,1).
4) format commands which reference other devices must also use the standard stand alone names - e.g.
format dsk(13,0,0,1)/flawmap or
format mt(0)/flawmap.
