tty

DESCRIPTION

Tty gives the name of the user’s typewriter in the form ‘ttyn’ for n a digit or letter.  The actual path name is then ‘/dev/ttyn’. 

DIAGNOSTICS

‘not a tty’ if the standard input file is not a typewriter.
