The definitive answer to hardware compatibility questions is always the BeOS Ready List:

VIA chipsets don't appear on that list at this time, however, we have received numerous reports from customers that the BeOS runs just fine on their VIA-based systems.

There are lots of VIA chipsets, though, and it's unlikely that the BeOS will work with all of them. Check the BeOS Probably Compatible List -- Intel, which reports configuration information sent to us by customers, which should be helpful in determining if your VIA chipset is supported by the BeOS.
