The BeOS is currently able to play "flattened" QuickTime movies compressed with the Cinepak compressor, but it does not support the full QuickTime API.

We talked to Apple for some time about QuickTime, as we would have liked to provide full QuickTime support on the BeOS, but we found the licensing requirements and costs made this impossible. We have no plans to support Sprockets or 3D RAVE.

Instead we are hard at work on the Media Kit, which provides what we think is a more powerful and flexible approach to handling media of different types, and one that is better suited to the BeOS than QuickTime would be.
