NAME
     issue - project identification file format

DESCRIPTION
     The  file  /etc/issue  contains   the   issue   or   project
     identification  to  be printed as a login prompt.  This file
     is in ASCII format and is read by getty and then written  to
     any  terminal  spawned  or  respawned  from the /etc/inittab
     file.  The daemon telnetd also reads this  file  and  writes
     its  contents  on the terminal of any user who is logging in
     through telnet.
