NAME ico - animates an icosahedron or other polyhedron SYNOPSIS ico [-display display] [-geometry geometry] [-r] [-d pattern] [-i] [-dbl] [-faces] [-noedges] [-sleep seconds] [-obj object] [-objhelp] [-colors colorlist] [-p number] [-bg color] [-lw width] [-size size] [-delta +X+Y] [-copy] [-softdbl] DESCRIPTION ico is a graphic demonstration program that displays a ro- tating polyhedron drawn with a ``wire frame'' or with faces filled with colors. Both types of drawings give a three- dimensional representation of a polyhedron by not displaying the lines or faces that rotate to the ``back.'' There are a number of different polyhedra available. Options The ico command accepts these options: -bg color Specifies the window background color. -copy Causes ico to copy, rather than clear, multibuffer frames. -colors colorlist Specifies the colors of the filled faces of the po- lyhedron. If fewer colors than faces are given, the colors are reused. -d pattern Specifies a bit pattern for drawing dashed lines for wire frames. -dbl Uses double buffering on the display. This works for either a wire-frame or filled polyhedron. For a filled polyhedron, using this option results in sub- stantially smoother movement. Note that use of the -dbl option requires twice as many bit planes as without double buffering. Because some colors are typically allocated by other applications, most 8- bit-plane displays are limited to 8 colors when us- ing double buffering. -delta +X+Y Specifies in pixels the horizontal (X) and vertical (Y) displacements by which ico moves the polyhedron. -faces Draws filled faces instead of wire frames. -i Uses inverted colors for wire frames. -lw width Specifies the width of the lines that form the frame of the polyhedron. -noedges Does not draw the wire frames. Typically, this op- tion is used only when the -faces option is used. -obj object Specifies the polyhedron to draw. If no polyhedron is specified, an icosahedron is drawn. -objhelp Displays a list of the available polyhedrons, with information about each polyhedron. -p number Specifies the number of primary colors ico should use to color the faces of the polyhedron. The range for number is 1-8. -r Displays on the background (root) window instead of creating a new window. size WxH Specifies in pixels the width (W) and height (H) of the polyhedron. -sleep seconds Causes the polyhderon to pause the number of seconds specified by seconds. -softdbl Causes ico to use double buffering to animate the polyhedron smoothly. LIMITATIONS A separate color cell is allocated for each name in the - colors list, even when the same name is specified twice. NOTES Copyright 1988, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
