reboot(1M) reboot(1M)
NAME reboot - reboots the operating system SYNOPSIS reboot [-h] [-l] [-n] [-q] ARGUMENTS -h Halts the system and does not restart the processor. -l Disables system logging. -n Avoids the use of the sync command, which is invoked only if a disk is having serious trouble and needs to be brought down immediately. -q Reboots quickly and ungracefully, without shutting down running processes first. DESCRIPTION reboot causes, by default, information in the disk buffers to be written to disk (using the sync command), file systems to be unmounted, and background support processes to be terminated (such as the print spooler). A system restart is then initiated. Only a user logged in to the root account can use reboot. The reboot command usually uses syslog to record the reboot and places a shutdown record in the login accounting file /usr/adm/wtmp. These actions are inhibited by the -n or -q option.
