ping(1M) ping(1M)
NAME ping - exercises the TCP/IP network by sending Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packets to a named host SYNOPSIS ping [-d] [-r] [-v] host [packet-size] [npackets] ARGUMENTS -d Enables socket-level debugging. host Specifies the host. The value of host can be a host name or an Internet Protocol (IP) address. npackets Specifies the number of packets to send. packet-size Specifies in bytes the size of the packet. The value of packet-size must be between 14 and 4096. The default packet size is 64 bytes. -r Bypasses the routing tables. -v Enables verbose output. DESCRIPTION ping repeatedly sends ICMP echo packets to the computer specified by host and reports whether a reply was received. The ping command continues to send packets and to display the reply until the number of packets specified by npackets is reached or until you issue the interrupt character (usually by pressing CONTROL-C). Before exiting, ping displays a summary of statistics. FILES /usr/etc/ping Executable file SEE ALSO icmp(5P) in A/UX Programmer's Reference January 1992 1
