NAME tty - obtains the device filename for the terminal or CommandShell window where it is invoked SYNOPSIS tty [-l] [-s] ARGUMENTS -l Prints the synchronous line number to which the user's terminal is connected, if it is on an active synchronous line. -s Inhibits printing of the terminal's pathname, allowing one to test just the exit code. DESCRIPTION tty displays the pathname of the terminal currently being used. EXAMPLES If you are using tty7 and you enter: tty the following will display: /dev/tty7 STATUS MESSAGES AND VALUES 2 if invalid options were specified 0 if standard input is a terminal 1 otherwise not on an active synchronous line if the standard input is not a synchronous terminal and the -l option is specified. not a tty if the standard input is not a terminal and the -s option is not specified.
