brc(1M) brc(1M)
NAME brc, bcheckrc, macsysinitrc, rc, sysinitrc, powerfail - system initialization shell scripts SYNOPSIS /etc/brc /etc/bcheckrc /etc/macsysinitrc /etc/powerfail /etc/rc /etc/sysinitrc DESCRIPTION init executes sysinitrc, macsysinitrc, brc, bcheckrc, and rc via entries in /etc/inittab. sysinitrc is executed before init starts up its initial level. The other scripts are ex- ecuted when the system is changed out of single user mode. powerfail executes whenever a system power failure is detected. brc loads any programmable microprocessors with their ap- propriate scripts. bcheckrc performs consistency checks to prepare the system for multiuser mode. It prompts you to check the file sys- tems with fsck(1M). rc starts system daemons before the terminal lines are en- abled for multiuser mode. In addition, it mounts file sys- tems and activates accounting, error logging, system activi- ty logging, and the Remote Job Entry (RJE) system. sysinitrc performs various system initialization tasks, in- cluding setting the internal clock, checking the root file system, setting host and domain names, and running autocon- figuration. macsysinitrc launches StartMonitor and CommandShell to pro- vide a front end for the A/UX(Reg.) boot process on the Macintosh(Reg.) computer while the system initialization scripts are executed. Before doing so, macsysinitrc exe- cutes /etc/keyset, which needs to be executed before the Ma- cintosh environment is active. powerfail is invoked when the system detects a power failure. It performs any last-minute activities as desired before powering down. April, 1990 1
