GETENV(3C) SysV GETENV(3C)
NAME
getenv - return value for environment name
SYNOPSIS
#include <stdlib.h>
char *getenv (name)
const char *name;
DESCRIPTION
getenv searches the environment list (see environ(5)) for a string of the
form name=value, and returns a pointer to the value in the current
environment if such a string is present, otherwise a NULL pointer.
DIAGNOSTICS
The getenv function returns a pointer to a string containing the value in
the current environment if such a string is present. If such a string is
not present, a null pointer is returned.
The returned string should not be modified by the application, and may be
overwritten or changed by a subsequent call to the getenv function.
