BIFF(1)
NAME
biff − asynchronous notification of mail
USAGE
biff [ y | n ]
DESCRIPTION
The biff command tells the system whether you want to be notified of incoming mail while you are logged in. The command
biff y
enables notification; the command
biff n
disables it. When mail notification is enabled, the header and first few lines of the message will be displayed in a window whenever mail arrives. Most users include a biff command line in their .login or .profile file, so that biff is set at log-in time.
The biff program operates asynchronously. For synchronous notification use the MAIL variable of sh (1) or the mail variable of csh (1).
