CMOS(4) — UNIX Programmer’s Manual
NAME
cmos − CMOS RAM driver
DESCRIPTION
The battery-backed CMOS RAM in Acorn workstations is used to hold various pieces of configuration information, in 240 bytes of memory. Such items as attached monitor type, bootstrap defaults and Video Console set-up parameters are stored here. The device /dev/cmos provides access to this memory by suitably privileged programs. The CMOS RAM is mapped as a contiguous sequence of 240 bytes. For definitions of memory usage, see the technical reference manual for the model in question.
The cmos device is implemented as an extra minor device of the standard kernel internal device driver which handles mem, kmem and null.
